Penny's 2005 Thanksgiving Giveaway

Penny Training 2005

As you can see I am working hard to stay in shape and be ready for the season. I have found a really good trainer, Ed Downs that has me on a rigorous schedule of two - hour sessions, which includes swimming. It has been an extremely busy summer but productive. I have been hitting my golf ball but not as often as I would like but B-Ball is and will always be my first love. I am beginning to pack my things up to ship back to New York. October training camp is right around the corner and the guys are starting to call me predicting the outcome of certain teams. It’s always fun to do that. Take care and I look forward to hearing from you throughout the year.

December 19, 2003 - Third Annual Penny Hardaway Christmas Gift Giveaway
As many of you know, for the past three years I’ve hosted a Christmas party at my home where hundreds of well deserving valley children have enjoyed food, entertainment and have received gifts from Santa. I’m happy to say that this year’s party was the best yet.

I love to see the kid’s reaction when they open their presents. You could see the excitement on their faces. This year, Rated-E sang carols, Barbie painted faces, and two court jesters entertained everyone while Sponge Bob gave hugs to his adoring fans. Bob Lanier and I read a Christmas story. Thank you Bob for getting the children involved in the reading of the story. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped out at the party. Thank you also to Whole Foods, who provided a wonderful meal for the children. Image Catering outdid themselves again and served up some of their most delectable dishes, short of my personal chef Ms. Libby cooking of course - I had to say that or she would beat me up.

This year a dance floor was added, and we all were able to let our hair down after the children left and had a ball. I actually danced and laughed with my guest who seemed surprised that I could dance. I have a lot of hidden talents, one of which is that I am a pretty good dancer.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but this ended up being a great send off from Phoenix for me. I know I enjoyed it as much as the kids did and I hope their memories of me are good ones. I also hope that next year someone will take up the torch and continue the tradition of brightening the Christmas season for the many well deserving children in the valley.

December 6, 2003 -NBA Wives Christmas Wrapping Party
The women behind NBA players are often not recognized for their generosity and unselfish commitment to their husbands, families, teams and fans. When the Phoenix Suns wives were asked to help wrap 400 gifts for the Penny Hardaway Third Annual Gift Giveaway they did not hesitate to volunteer.

The wives arrived at Penny's game house and wrapped gifts while watching the Suns play at New Jersey. Many stayed until late into the evening. The event was organized by Penny, his family and office staff.

"I enjoy helping Penny with this event every year because I think it's awesome that he invites the children to his home, provides food, entertainment and many gifts. It's incredible to see their faces light up when he interacts with them personally." Joy Johnson, wife of retired NBA player Eddie Johnson and Suns TV announcer

“I love what is being done here and I am especially excited about Penny implementing Bob's Read to Achieve Program into the party. It's a very special night." Rose Lanier, wife of NBA Hall of Famer Bob Lanier

That’s a Wrap!

May 11, 2003 - Penny Graduated from The University of Memphis

"I finally got it baby!" After leaving The University of Memphis 10 years ago, Penny finally fulfilled University requirements and received his diploma. In 1993 Penny left school to pursue his basketball career in the NBA. However, he never abandoned his goal of attaining that diploma. Just before the Suns finished their regular season and were preparing for the playoff, Penny wrote his final poly sci paper. "It was about Martin Luther King Jr's letter from a Birmingham jail, and I got an A!"

Congratulation! We're proud of you, Penny!
